HEIDENHAIN designed the KCI 1300 (singleturn) and KBI 1300 (multiturn) inductive rotary encoders specifically for compact motors in robots and other applications. Each series includes a fan-out-technology (FOT) variant featuring the encoder electronics on a metal carrier. Besides reducing the required space and number of parts, this metal component can double as the motor’s bearing cover while dissipating heat directly to the outside. These special encoders, the KCI 1138 FOT and KBI 1335 FOT, are mounted via a disk/hub assembly that is press-fitted onto the motor shaft.
